To understand the difference between health and well-being, in short, health is a state of being, while well-being is the state of living a healthy lifestyle. Health refers to physical, mental and social well-being; well-being aims to improve well-being. For me, health and well-being means being in a healthy and comfortable state both physically and mentally. It means staying physically active, eating healthy, and allowing your body to rest, despite the hustle and bustle of life.
Health and well-being also means surrounding yourself with the right people and putting yourself in the right environment to feel mentally stable and happy. This includes recognizing the things that discourage and negatively affect you and leaving those things aside instead of bringing them to light. Health is defined as the general mental and physical state of a person; the absence of illness. This is not quite the same as well-being.
Well-being refers to the state of optimal mental and physical health. Wellness has many different dimensions, including physical, emotional, spiritual, environmental, interpersonal, occupational, financial, and intellectual. This multidimensional view of well-being includes physical, emotional, environmental, social, spiritual, intellectual and occupational well-being. The main difference between Health and Wellness is that health is the goal and well-being is the active process to achieve it.
Employers can offer programs, benefits, or benefits that support any dimension of well-being, but most of the time you will see workplace wellness programs that support physical activity, nutrition, mental health and stress management, and aspects of social and emotional well-being. For me, health and well-being means that your physical and emotional health are in good shape so that you feel capable of achieving everything you want to achieve. Health and well-being are very important aspects of maintaining overall health because to have holistic health, one must actively pursue it. Health and wellness careers are wonderful options for those who want to be part of healthcare but not within clinical functions.
People often use the terms health and wellness interchangeably, but the terms have different meanings. Connecting with peers and family is important to maintaining social well-being because feeling social connection is very important to feeling a sense of belonging and community. For me, health and well-being mean balance in body and mind, feeling good and motivated, and you know that there are people who support you. The World Health Organization was the first to define well-being as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and “not simply the absence of illness or illness.
Mindfulness is another key player in promoting physical and mental health, as it falls within the spiritual dimension of well-being. What really struck me was the firm understanding that health and well-being are more than physical health: it's balance, balance, stability, just to name a few. These types of programs are often implemented by wellness committees in larger organizations (in that regard, see these 19 simple activities that your wellness committee can implement) and by human resource managers in smaller companies. Well-being has a direct influence on overall health which is essential to living a strong, happy and fulfilling life.
Companies of all sizes can implement some type of program or benefit to support employee health and well-being.
