Many corporations are investing in wellness programs that offer resources to help employees lose extra pounds, address chronic medical conditions and ailments, and make lifestyle changes, such as quitting smoking.

You may have access to a discounted gym membership, a free smoking cessation program, or a nutrition counselor as part of your company's wellness program. But wellness goes beyond the benefits for employees you can qualify for through your employment. Your well-being is also affected by your daily health decisions and the care you receive. Preventive care is an important aspect of well-being because it can help you reduce your risk of certain health conditions, such as heart disease and cancer, and help you understand the risk factors you have the most control over.

The steps one would take to improve any of those areas of health could start with many of the same things, such as aiming to lose weight, lower blood pressure and cholesterol by limiting processed foods, eating more nutrient-dense foods, prioritizing sleep, managing stress, not smoking, limiting consumption of alcohol and much more. Connecting with peers and family is important to maintaining social well-being, because feeling social connection is very important to feeling a sense of belonging and community. However, the CDC also reports that well-being incorporates other aspects of living conditions, such as resilience, positive emotions and feelings, the quality of relationships with others, and the ability to develop one's potential. Developing intellectual well-being is essential not only to help a person grow in school and perform better at work, but also to prevent the onset of diseases.

They adopt lifestyles that improve health, prevent diseases and improve their quality of life and a sense of well-being. While you can't choose health status, you can consciously choose well-being by living your life responsibly and taking proactive steps for your well-being. By being physically fit and in good shape, you can take better care of yourself and others, especially in a time of need.
